Here is Sig Sauer’s optimal combination of compactness and firepower in a hammer fired metal frame pistol, the P224 Extreme chambered in .40 S&W caliber. Type is traditional single and double action semiautomatic pistol. Caliber is .40 Smith & Wesson. Manufacturer and warrantor is Sig Sauer of Exeter, NH, construction of German parts from the Eckenforde plant in German, and US made parts. Slide is steel, 1.03 wide at the port, with serrated rear laterals and one piece full length guide rod. Sights are steel dovetailed front and rear, luminous ® Night Sights, made by Mepro for Sig. Barrel is 3 1/2 inch, six groove right hand 1:9.87 rifling. Trigger is .315 smooth faced steel, pulls double action at 11 pounds vicinity, with 1 inch of travel. Single action pull on the photo specimen gauged at 5 pounds on its two stage pull, with moderate felt creep and overtravel. Hammer is short serrated spur .310. Sigs do not have or need a manually operated safety, the decocker lever puts the car in park to end any firing session. Magazines are US Made factory issue steel bodied, flush fit 10 rounder with short finger rest, and an extended twelve rounder with grip adapter, so 12 + 1 fully loaded capacity. Grips are factory issue, metal laminate Hogue Extreme duty, with stippled laterals and backstrap. Overall length is 6.7 inches from the muzzle to the grip frame strut. Height is 4 1/2 inches from the floorplate heel to the top of the rear sight. Weight empty is 29 ounces with center of gravity at the breech face. Each P224 comes in its padded factory hardshell case with protective papers, hang tag, chamber protector, inspection wrapper, cable lock, lubrican, pamphlets, and instruction manual that includes factory registration card and statement of lifetime limited warranty. Manufacturer’s retail price on this pistol is over $1,000. We’re offering the Sig P224 .40 in the photos, however, or one of its identical mates for only $ 639.00.
