Here is the Smith & Wesson model 10’s Brazilian offspring, the Taurus Model 80, with tapered or Pencil 4 inch barrel and square butt grip frame. From its 800000 range serial number, it was manufactured in 1978 or 1979. Manufacturer was Forjas Taurus S.A. of Porto Allegre, Brazil. Importer was International Distributors of Miami, and it is so marked. Type is double and single action revolver with transfer bar internal safety device. It is the simplest and one of the least dangerous firearms a person can own. Construction is all steel, with retro fitted but period correct Sile Italian walnut grips. Barrel is 4 inch tapered type, .610 diameter at the muzzle but .675 outside diameter near the frame. Bore has 1:18.75 six groove right hand rifling. Sights are welded base blade front and fixed notch frame integral rear. Cylinder capacity is 6 rounds of .38 Special standard or +P ammunition. Trigger is .250 serrated face service type, with matching serrated spur hammer. Ignition is via hammer nose firing pin. Weight empty is 30 1/2 ounces, with center of gravity at the trigger. Surface detractions are extensive, as the photos show, principally etchy freckling on the cylinder, barrel, and frame verticals. Lower frame verticals show sanding marks. We rate it as only Good, 60 percent vicinity finishwise by our estimate; but photos ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. This revolver is mechanically sound; the cylinder shows 1 or 2mm of lateral play, but times correctly both in single and double action. Bore, chamber, and mechanism are all right and clean. Own one of the best personal handgun values on the market today, and one of the most effective, this Taurus 4 inch blue model 80 in the photos for only $ 189.00.
